Melbourne Rat Race
Media Release / 29.10.2008
The Rat Race is the creation of Jim Mee, ex Red Bull events specialist and now Director of Detail Events and the Rat Race Urban Adventure Series, alongside other adventure oriented events. It\'s fair to say that Jim has had a busy career in the events world, starting at Red Bull where he was responsible for creating some of their most famous extreme sporting events.During his time at Red Bull, Jim got to know Gary Tompsett and they worked closely on adventure race projects starting with the 2001 Adrenalin Rush for which Gary was designing the course. The pair then teamed up to produce the Red Bull Northern Exposure in 2002, the first ever adventure race staged in winter. From these roots, the events keep coming!
One hundred and fifteen teams lined up for the first race on July 17th 2004 in Edinburgh Scotland. And the event has been like a steam train picking up pace ever since.
2005 saw the race go to Manchester, and Bristol as well as Edinburgh. 2006 saw a return to the same cities as 05, just a lot more competitors.
2007 was big, the rats invaded, and this time over 800 competitors were sent scurring through the streets from the shadows of tower bridge.
2008 sees Newcastle (that\'s the one with the baby harbour bridge), Birmingham and Brighton added to the fold and also heralds an international expansion with the Melbourne race on the 22nd and 23rd.
