Snowy Winter Fun at the Frontier Adventure Challenge
07.12.2008
On January 17, 2009, the Kinark Outdoor Centre will host the Winter Frontier Adventure Challenge. A snowy version of a summer adventure race, this event features 35 kms of winter sports like snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and tubing, as well as mountain biking and orienteering.“This winter race has always been a fun and different type of event, and this year we are again mixing up the race course style to keep it interesting and challenging for competitors. The Kinark Centre has provided the ideal location with great amenities, fun trail systems, and loads of surrounding wilderness,†said Geoff Langford, Chief Adventure Officer of event organizers Frontier Adventure Sports.
“The Haliburton area is far enough north to guarantee great snow coverage, but still a quick and scenic drive from Toronto.â€
As many as 100 teams of three and solo racers will compete for up to 8 hours on the wintery course. Teams of three can be all-male, all-female, or coed. The race is built with a variety of course options so that anybody from complete novice to experienced racer will have a rewarding and memorable day.
“It’s perfect cross-training for anyone into adventure sports, and a great change of pace for triathletes,†Langford also said. “At the same time, it’s a fun challenge for the weekend warrior.â€
With onsite accommodations and meal plans, and plenty of pre and post race activities available, the race tends to become a weekend getaway. First time teams and some of Canada’s best create a vibrant Athlete’s Village for the weekend – especially with a licensed party following the race.
Organizers are expecting this race to be the most popular yet. It's a great deal with an entry fee of only $375.
In addition, teams that submit their paid registration before midnight, Monday Dec 8 will be entered to win their next Frontier AC race for FREE! A great reason to sign up now!
