Spanish adventure racer Antonia de la Rosa has just broken the Guinness World Record in underwater kissing. For those who know him, this may come as little surprise...On February 1st, on prime-time on Spanish TV channel Telecinco, Antonio, along with Sonia Matesanz and Esperanza Ruis, beat the existing Guinness World Record for underwater kissing, before more than 3 million spectators.
The challenge consisted of Antonio remaining underwater in a pool while Sonia and Esperanza swam up and down from the surface, giving him air via mouth-to-mouth respiration. The difficultyin this is that the air that they are giving him contains an elevated percentage of CO2.
The total time the team managed was 7 minutes and 1 second, beating the previous world record of 6 minutes 13 seconds (also held by Antonio!).
Always in the centre of the action, SleepMonsters offers you this exclusive interview with the new record holder:
SM: How did you train for this, and when did you start?
Antonio: I’ve been swimming underwater since I was thirteen, and as a firefighter I have gone into apnea (the cessation of breathing) many times. But the important thing is the capacity to use a small amount of air efficiently, an ability that I think adventure racers have - small oxygen consumption for great effort.
SM: I meant, more like, how did you train for the kissing part?
Antonio: Ha ha, I don’t need to practice kissing, I’ve had lots of girlfriends, hee hee hee.
