Record Field

Naantali Marshall - Rapid Ascent / 14.02.2009
The Anaconda Odyssey consists three mountain bike races all being on Saturday February 21st, 2009 and all leading riders on a spectacular but demanding journey through the Otway Ranges. The premier Anaconda Odyssey event will see 1000 riders tackle 100km of narrow and twisting trails between Apollo Bay and Forrest for a tough day in the saddle. Second to that, 500 riders will take on a more direct 50km ‘Anaconda Shorty’ route between the two townships while the 15km ‘Anaconda Pioneer’ race will give kids the opportunity to get into the action with a fun course around Forrest itself.

The entry list for the Anaconda Odyssey reads like a who’s who list of the best riders in the sport with all the nation’s fastest mountain bikers primed and ready to battle over the gruelling 100km course.

The men’s field will see some tough competition between riders from all over the country with last years’ winner Chris Jongewaard from South Australia returning to defend his title although there are many who are determined to make him work for it including 2007 event winner Murray Spink from Victoria, Beijing Mountain Bike Olympian Dan McConnell, reigning Solo World 24hr Champion MTB James Williamson and even Tour De France rider Phil Anderson, all who have entered the event.
