Mild Seven Gets Online for 2004

Rob / 27.05.2004
Mild Seven Outdoor Quest has now launched this year’s web site, ready for the race in Borneo at the end of October. It has the full 2004 entry information, course description and day by day profiles, course photos and ‘Notes from the Field’ and a very cool 6 minute promotional video – you have to look under History 2003 to find it though.

It’s not quite all there yet but other features will be added in the lead up to the race, including an ‘athlete corner’ with all the race-related announcements to the confirmed teams, Teams Information, Scoreboard and Bulletin Board.

This year’s race is sub-titled \"The Best of Borneo” but teams returning from the 2002 and 2003 races are promised they will get to new venues and there will be some new challenges in the 2004 course design. For the first time the race will visit the highest peak on Mount Kinabalu, and dip into some new technical canyons with cool, crystal clear mountain water. Also new this year is a full (although short) 5th race stage (formerly the Prologue) and rest day between Stages 3 and 4.

Entries for the race are already strong with teams from USA, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Malaysia, Japan, China, Canada, New Zealand and Finland already confirmed. Suitably experienced teams can still get in, but the ‘early bird discount’ offer expires on July 1st. There is also an MSOQ travel package which covers virtually all your expenses once you arrive in Borneo.

For the top teams the race has attractive prize money that runs well down the finish list. It’s promoted as ‘the world’s richest adventure race’ – a but like Primal Quest’s ‘Earth’s richest adventure’!

The race will have seven sports over five stages, traversing approximately 300 kilometres. The winning time for Stages 2-5 is expected to be around 7 hours, while stage 1 will be won in a quick 1 hour. There are only a maximum of twenty-four places for four-person teams, and in an interesting twist each team must include members of both sexes … or at least one person 45 years of age or older on October 28, 2004. So, all male teams can race for the prize money.
