Battling the Beast of Ballyhoura

The races are designed to test competitor's skill levels and endurance in a range of disciplines with all three races incorporating the world class Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trails. Competitors must be prebooked and tickets are available online at www.ballyhourabeast.com.
Race1: The Beast of Ballyhoura
Back for 2009, you can experience this uniquely Irish 36 hour non-stop adventure race set in the ancient and magical surroundings of counties Cork, Limerick and Tipperary. The Beast will start on Friday night July 31st and finish on Sunday August 2nd. The race is designed for teams of four comprising a mix of men and women. The goal is to be the first team to get all four members across the finish line together. Teams will Mountain Run, Mountain Bike, Kayak, Abseil and Shoot over a period of 36+ hours on a predetermined route through the low lands and uplands of Tipperary, Limerick and Cork. Teams will have to navigate the best route and determine the optimum level of equipment, food and pace to win. Prepare to meet your demons during this event designed exclusively to push each team to their limits.
Race 2: The Blackrock Challenge
New for 2009 the Blackrock Challenge will take place on Sunday August 2nd. The route will cover a distance of 80km, 15 km of hill running followed by 65 km of mountain biking with navigation for compulsory markers along the way. The race is for people looking for a tough challenge and incorporates 2,000 meters of height gain, all mountain terrain and significant proportions of cross country single track riding. Be prepared for river crossings, hike a bike and 'Heartbreak Hill'.
Race 3: The Ballyhoura Blitz
The Ballyhoura Blitz will take place on Sunday August 2nd. The race is for individuals looking for the experience of adventure racing. The race will cover a distance of 30 Km consisting of a 10km hill run followed by 20 km of mountain biking on the world class Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trails. The race will involve some adventure terrain and competitors should be prepared to get wet. It will offer an opportunity for people to challenge themselves, to push themselves to the limits and perhaps for some to redefine their limits. The race route will be designed and marketed to maximize its appeal to first timers into the sport of adventure racing.
