Polar Record Holder Joins Team Accelerate

Caroline Bullard is a well known regular for Team Accelerate Adventure Racing. Now joining the Team is her younger brother George who at the age of 19 is already a Record Holder. In March 2008 he joined Polar Explorer Alex Hibbert, as they set of 1,400 mile unsupported trek across Greenland.

Without support they had to drag 'their lives' behind them on a fibreglass sledge weighing 195kg, which included an amazing 44kg of flapjack, each. Despite this and a special high calorie diet George lost 15kg in body weight by the time the pair had completed the trek. This was compounded by the fact that for the final 10 days they were on emergency rations, with the return journey becoming a race against time.

After 113 days George (along with Alex) entered the record books for the longest unsupported Polar journey in history.

George has already raced for Team Accelerate and trained with the Team. He placed 3rd at the Helly Hansen XXX (Cumbria) and more recently at the Open 5+ with his sister where again they were on the podium in 3rd. George said on joining the Team, "I can't wait to get out there race and am looking forward to getting involved in the longer multi-day non stop events in Europe".

George is also a highly regarded long distance swimmer who has raced 'overseas', representing Great Britain. He was also a Nationally ranked Tetrathlete which combines horse riding, shooting, swimming and cross country running. The Team has also discovered he can sail, kayak and ride a bike and strangely enough he is quite good at these too!

Team Manage Stuart Hale said, "George has always wanted to be involved with the Team and we followed his Polar antics with much interest. Then when we spoke last year the writing was on the wall and it was pretty much a formality that he would be joining".
