Suunto launches two new watches aimed at the AR market
Press Release / 23.10.2009
<b>Suunto Launches Core Extreme Edition Red - The ultimate new instrument for any adrenaline-packed outdoor activity</b>Suunto Core has been designed to provide reliable and accurate data to confidently evaluate the user's surroundings. It combines advanced ABC (altimeter, barometer and compass) functions with benefits such as a depth meter, sunrise and sunset times, and a menu in four languages. Available in a selection of styles from urban to outdoors, Suunto Core took the glory in one of the most renowned and hardest-fought international design competitions by winning the red dot: best of the best award at the red dot design competition last year.
Accurate to 29,500 feet (9,000 meters), the altimeter displays current elevation, shows elevation gained and lost, and records sessions for review. The automatic alti/baro mode switches between altimeter and barometer depending on the activity and so shows the most relevant information for each situation.
Suunto Core was used widely at this year's Red Bull X-Alps 2009 event and helped to meet the extreme challenges that awaited the athletes during this challenging race. The altimeter, barometer and compass functions became invaluable tools as the racers navigated their way through the Alps during this two-week long event.
<b>Sunnto's First 'Vector' With Heart Rate Monitor</b>
This new model is the first to contain a heart rate monitor as well as compass, barometer and altimeter. Each sophisticated feature provides users with the information needed to make responsible decisions when in the great outdoors.
Still the number one outdoor wristop computer in the world, Suunto Vector HR's zone alarms let the climber know when the heart rate is climbing faster than the climber is â۠or when the training regime is too easy. Training for a climb with the heart rate monitor gives an objective measure of exertion, whether doing a long, steady hike or short intervals of intense bursts of energy in the gym.
The Suunto Vector HR comes with a Comfort Belt - pleasingly soft due to the silicone bands inside the belt. The thin length-adjustment buckles minimize the risk of friction and abrasions, allowing the user to train with minimal interruption.
The Suunto Vector HR's altimeter features a range up to 9.000 m / 29,500 ft, placing it in reach of all 14 of the world's 8,000+ meter summits. It also measures vertical speed and works with the HR monitor so enthusiasts can see the physiological impact of both altitude and vertical rate of movement. The barometer function helps the hiker stay one step ahead of the storm by reading the weather trend on the display and interpreting changes in the barometric pressure.
The electronic compass, with bubble level, gives accurate readings with three degree precision. The compass can be set to track a certain bearing and graphically show the difference between that and the actual bearing. This is a valuable tool which, together with the declination adjustment function, helps the hiker to get on track after minor or major detours.
The Suunto Vector outdoor watch became an icon among outdoor enthusiasts right after its launch in 1999 and won the prestigious European Outdoor Award - Product of the Year at the Outdoor Trade Fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany, the same year.
Both these new watches will be available from November 2009.
