New ARWS event this February

Eduardo Caputo, Race Director of Xtremo6000, is pleased to add Argentina to the roster of ARWS events. This February he will present the fourth edition of the 3-day event. The first edition took place in 2007, and was won by American team Sole. This fourth edition takes place February 25th to 27th. Thirty one teams from four different countries are confirmed so far, and the race is filling quickly (last year there were 59 teams). The race offers standard AR format in its Elite category (all-male and mixed teams of 4) as well as a “Pro†category and a shorter “Desafío†category, each for teams of 2, 3 or 4.
On offer is prize money totalling US$10,000, to be shared between the top three Elite teams. “This is the only event in Argentina to offer such prize money,†says Caputo.
This year’s race takes place in the Andes, in Argentina’s La Rioja province, northwestern Argentina, and the countryside promises to be both spectacular and challenging. The route includes Laguna Brava, an 18 km long lake up in the high Andes at 4200 m which is habitat to native flamingos. It will also pass through Talampayo National Park - so unique that it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its unusual dinosaur fossils. Caputo emphasizes that this will be a very unique opportunity, for a race to be permitted to pass through the park.
Caputo has a strong track record, both as a racer and as a Race Director, which will ensure a quality event here. I have seen him race in Patagonia, continuing on with his team for days in spite of wearing an eye-patch after getting speared by a branch, so I have witnessed his racer's spirit!
SleepMonsters will, of course, be providing live daily race coverage here online. But for those of you who are racers and not computer geeks, you still have two months to get organized and get down there. This newest ARWS event promises to be a highlight of the racing year, and it is filling up!
