Fulda Arctic Challenge Seeks GB Team
Rob / 10.08.2004
The search is on again for one man and one woman to represent Great Britain in the 2005 Fulda Tyres Extreme Arctic Challenge.Described as ‘the ultimate arctic adventure’ the event takes place in the Yukon Territory in January 2005. The icy Canadian wilderness will be the scene for a demanding endurance event that will test the qualities of stamina, skill and determination to a limit close to breaking point. It’s the perfect challenge for those who have a passion for alpine and extreme sports.
Teams from around the world, including Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy will compete to win the prize of two Klondike gold nuggets with a combined value of C$10,000 (approximately £4,200 subject to exchange rate).
In Polar conditions (as low as minus 35ºC) participants will compete in several daunting challenges each day. A range of Yukon activities from the traditional (husky sledding, ice climbing, snowshoeing and skiing) to the unusual (car pulling, changing Fulda tyres and frozen water skiing) are just some of the events that competitors in previous years have faced. Each challenge is designed to push competitors to the absolute limit, testing strength, stamina, and determination – as well as battling sub-zero temperatures.
Last year Gill Watson and Gary Bullen made up the UK team, finishing in 6th place over the week long competition. If you’d like to try out for this year’s team take a look at our day by day coverage from earlier this year first. You can read it here.
Marcus White, Brand Manager for Fulda UK said: “Next year we are determined to field the strongest British team yet. We want to have a chance of winning the whole event and show the other competitors that Britain really is best. To achieve this we need to select a team that is strong at winter sports, is fit, fast and has the resolve to succeed in the most demanding of conditions.â€
Any budding adventurers who think they have got what it takes to pull a car, not to mention ski, snowshoe, climb and run should contact Anita Patchett or Paul Farmer via email for further details or an application form.
Short-listed applicants will be invited to compete in a selection event in the UK (11-12 September 2004) before competing in the final Fulda Tyres Challenge elimination event, which takes place in Solden, Italy in September (30 September-4 October).
From here the final Great Britain team will be chosen.
