World Rogaining Champs 2010 - Across the Ditch
Press Release / 21.01.2010
Planning is well under way and there will be a memorable event for you in November 2010.The Event Area
Most of the terrain is open grassed farmland on rolling hills with spur-gully features, pockets of native forest in some streams, and some plantation forests. There is very little shrubby vegetation that cannot be negotiated. The competition area is bounded to the North and South by large uncrossable rivers and by the Pacific Ocean to the east. See the website for some preliminary pictures.
Event Headquarters is centrally located on the map at 60m above sea level. The average relief of the surrounding hills is 200m, rising to a maximum of 400m. Most routes will be cross-country rather than road or track walking, providing some challenging navigation.
While you are in New Zealand
New Zealand is renowned as an adventure playground. There are many opportunities for walking, mountaineering, mountain-biking, kayaking, white water rafting, ice-climbing, bungy jumping, swimming with dolphins, whale-watching and more. All these activities take place in regions of stunning scenery and landscapes.
Few countries can combine such wonderful rugged landscapes, gorgeous beaches, spectacular geothermal and volcanic activity, a temperate climate and a fascinating animal and plant life in such a small area.
