adidias TERREX Adventure Race Joins the AR World Series

26.01.2010
The adidas TERREX Adventure Race organisers were delighted to hear that the race has been accepted as part of the Adventure Race World Series in 2010.

‘It is without doubt’ they were told, that the four day non-stop adventure race through Cumbria ticks all the boxes to enable it to become one of the qualifying races for the World Series. The race organisers are confident that this will attract International Teams to this spectacular race across Cumbria. It is the first time in 4 years that an Adventure Race in the UK has been part of this series.

The adidas TERREX Adventure race is the obvious choice as one of the qualifying races for the World Series. Open Adventure is proud to team up with adidas to present this 4 day non-stop expedition race across Cumbria. The race is packed with challenges for all, and makes a spectacular journey through the Lake District, taking in the best that this mountainous environment can offer.

The race hopes to attract a plethora of International Teams to compete in the race and experience the wild terrain that the Lake District has to offer. Other countries that are hosting qualifying races include – Poland, Argentina, Portugal, Australia, Sweden, New England, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ecuador and France. More information on all of these races can be found on www.arworldseries.com.

In pursuit of World Champions, the Adventure Racing World Series is the recognized qualifier for the Adventure Race World Championship. For the qualifying teams at the end of the series The World Championship Race – The Bimbache Extrem – is being held in Castilla Y Leon (Spain) on September 30th – October 9th.

Perhaps this year more than any other it is very fitting that one of the World Series Races should be in the UK as at the end of 2009, for the first time ever a British Team brought home the title of the Adventure Racing World Series from Portugal. Team Helly Hansen Prunesco crossed the line after 5 days covering a distance of nearly 900km!

Nick Gracie a member of the winning team and very experienced Adventure Racer commented, “ I am very excited that the Adidas Terrex race has joined the Adventure Race World Series. There is a huge Adventure Race community in the UK and we have produced a number of strong teams over the years. Having a World Series event will help focus UK teams and encourage more to compete on an international level. For visiting international teams the Lake District is the most beautiful area of England and the race is being planned by a very strong local racer, Bruce Duncan, who will make sure the race is challenging but fun”
