Top International Competitors to star at DueSouth Xterra SA Finals
Press Release / 18.02.2010
South Africa’s leading multi-sport series the DUESOUTH XTERRA presented by REHIDRAT® continues to build its world-class reputation by attracting top notch international competitors. Some of the global sporting stars, who will be tackling the DUESOUTH XTERRA South African finals presented by REHIDRAT® in Grabouw on Saturday, 20 February 2010, is leading Austrian multi-sport athlete and reigning DUESOUTH XTERRA Grabouw Individual Women’s Champion, Carina Wasle.According to Wasle, XTERRA is her passion. “Last year I competed at my first DUESOUTH XTERRA Grabouw event and I liked it so much that I just had to come back this year. The mountain bike course is fast, but also technical and the running course is just fun. I especially enjoy the climbs during the run discipline and of course the funny signs that I came across along the route really made me laugh. After the DUESOUTH XTERRA Grabouw, I will focus on the XTERRA European Tour. There are races in Portugal, Sardinia, Czech, France, Germany and Switzerland. My aim for this year is to win the European Tour, after which I would like to take part in the US Champs. After these events I will hopefully be in great shape for the highlight of the year - the XTERRA World Champs in Maui,†says Wasle. Her impressive track record during the past racing season includes top podium positions at the Winter-World-Champs and XTERRA Czech as well runner-up at the XTERRA European Champs in Austria and 4th places at the XTERRA US Champs and the XTERRA World Champs in Maui.
Other top athletes to watch out for on the day include Mari Rabie, Dan Hugo, Kent Horner, Rob Woestenborghs (Belgium) and Nico Pfitzenmaier (Germany).
The local series forms part of the XTERRA Global Tour and athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for the world championship final in Hawaii later this year. The global series span more than 90 qualifying events in 13 countries and take competitors to some of the most spectacular and challenging courses around the globe. Featuring three disciplines, individual athletes or teams of three can tackle the full challenge of the XTERRA, consisting of a 1.5km swim, 25km MTB route and 10km trail run.
