World’s Best at DT Swiss Mountains To Beach

Media Release / 25.02.2010
It won’t be an easy task with Australian team member and Snowy Mountains resident Andy Blair keen to ensure Jason is toppled. Andy has not forgotten his loss to Jason by just 20 seconds in the 2009 Race, and is determined to go all the way to the top in 2010.

Andy Blair, recently appointed an Ambassador for the DT Swiss Mountains to Beach, had this to say about the 2010 race.

“I can’t wait for the start of the 2010 DT Swiss Mountains to Beach. After losing the race on the final stage last year I am hoping that I can go one better this year. The course changes from last year will probably favour the enduro men, but I have had a very good preparation this year and should be a bit fresher on the start line in Thredbo. I think tactics will once again play a huge part in the race, with allies an important factor for a good result on the two long decisive stages; The Osprey Hydraulics Mountain Traverse and The Verofit Big Day Out.”

The event consists of 6 timed Race Stages and 4 untimed Cruise stages. It will again see riders ride the chairlift from Thredbo to the start at on the slopes of Mount Kosciuszko and finish with a beach sprint across the sands at Narooma some 2000 metres lower and 400km in distance.

Riders will cover all types of terrain – from screaming downhill runs, across the snow plains and high country and into lush rainforest before finishing with a run up the coastline, crossing rivers, creeks and sandbars. Recent torrential rains could certainly have some impacts on the race, particularly once we reach the coast.

The DT Swiss Mountains To Beach is organized by Wild Horizons, promoters of some of Australia’s best known mountain bike events.
