24 Hours of Exposure - the first UK & Ireland Solo 24Hr Mountain Bike Championships

News Release / 16.03.2010
On Saturday 22nd May 2010 the Scottish border village of Newcastleton will play host to the UK’s first 24 hour solo mountain bike championship. With many of the top British endurance riders already entered it looks like being one of the toughest 24 hour races in the fifteen year history of the increasingly popular discipline; with the race open to all nationalities and the championship title awarded to the top placed English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh rider.

Between noon on Saturday and noon on Sunday riders will push themselves to their limits in the hope of winning the coveted Championship jerseys. For those competing in their very first 24 hour solo mtb race one lucky rider will win the Morvelo “Rookie” prize; a one of a kind Morvelo designed jersey and trophy awarded to the rider that achieves the highest overall result on their first go at the endurance distance.

Throughout the day competitors will be supported by a host of family, friends, sponsors and event staff as they pass through the Rock UK venue after completing each 12 mile lap; taking on food and water, having bikes cleaned and repaired, changing clothes and receiving the vital encouragement needed to keep them on the trail.

Unique to this event and befitting a solo championship, the race is for solo riders only. Event organisers, SIP Events, have used their years of experience as competitors and organisers of 24 hour and endurance racing to create the ideal setting for people to tackle this challenge. To keep everything running smoothly they have enrolled a variety of expertise to provide free trackside services available to every competitor and cater specifically to the needs of solo riders - from Torq nutrition products, Juice Lubes bike care and an endless supply of caffeine from Magnus Maximus Coffee, to title sponsor Exposure Lights recharging and hiring out powerful bike mounted lights to get them safely through the night.

Rory Hitchens of USE/Exposure Lights delightedly explained Exposure’s involvement with this dynamic new event:
“This is the race to challenge yourself at, to make your mark and to undertake that Solo effort you’ve always promised yourself, in this respect we are very excited to sponsor the Championship.
We encourage all riders to make their own bid for glory and take part in the 24hrs of Exposure and also look forward to the ultimate showdown of British talent for the Championship titles.“

The event website www.24hoursolo.co.uk will soon be a resource for all 24 hour riders and has race tips and experiences from some of the world’s top riders, as well as event special offers, and watch out for a tailor-made training programme from a World Champion.
