This is the 2nd year of the Man versus Horse race in Ireland! The race involves runners and riders competing against each other over a 30K route which is Forestry and road. Horse and rider, individual runners or runners can be in a relay team of 2, 3 or 4.
There are cash prizes for riders and runners.
For the 1st individual runner that completes the 30k route before the horse will receive €1,000.

History of Man versus Horse
Inspired by a conversation in his local pub, in 1980 Gordon Green, the landlord of the Neuadd Arms, overheard the claims of one of his patrons who professed that over a significant distance across country, man was the equal of any horse. Deciding this was a matter for a public challenge, the Man versus Horse Marathon was born.
The race has been run every year since, changing and attaining new levels of entry and challenges each time. It took 25 years before a man finally beat a horse, when Huw Lobb won in two hours and five minutes, finishing two minutes before the fastest horse.
Members of Donard Equestrian were in a pub in Wales and heard this story. They decided to host this event in Ireland. Now for the 2nd year running Donard Equestrian in Co.Wiclow are setting the challenge in Ireland. Donard Equestrian have being hosting trail rides every Sunday for the last 18 years and have raised over €120,000 for charity to date. They have never missed a Sunday to-date.
The race itself is run over 30 kilometers of mixed and hilly terrain, including farm tracks, foot and bridle paths and forestry roads. A great competitive day out...
So if you think you have the horse power...see you at the start line!
