Hebridean Challenge 2005 – New Dates and New Team Options
Rob / 20.09.2004
The One.Tel Hebridean Challenge has announced its dates for 2005 along with a couple of new options for would-be competitors. There will be no solo competition next year, but there will be an unsupported team category with no kayaking, and a pairs category with optional kayaking. The race will take place during the week commencing July 4th 2005 through the islands of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, though the direction of next year¹s race (South to North or North to South) is still to be decided.
As usual, the main competition for the Hebridean Challenge Trophy will be for unsupported mixed teams of five and will include serious sea-kayaking sections (usually completed by one specialist team-member). However, for 2005 there will also be a category for unsupported teams of four, covering the whole course except for the sea-kayaking sections (hill running, mountain biking, road biking and swimming).
In 2005 there will also be a pairs category for unsupported pair, with optional kayaking. The format of the pairs race will be similar to the team event, essentially a relay, though with some legs for both competitors together. However, it will also involve the completion of a number of optional sections including kayaking legs. This means that kayaking will not be compulsory in the pairs, though if at least one of the pair can kayak they will have more choice over which of the optional sections they complete.
More information about the One.Tel Hebridean Challenge, including an entry form for the 2005 race will be available on the event website shortly, and you can direct any questions to Race Director Jon Brooke via the event forum here on SleepMonsters.co.uk
