Rapid Ascent - Media Release / 26.03.2010
We are very excited to publicly announce a new multisport event on the Rapid Ascent calendar called The Marysville to Melbourne Multisport Challenge (M2M) that is set to take place on Sunday 10th April 2011. Involving trail running, road riding and flat water paddling this will be the most exciting sports event to hit Melbourne since Fun Runs in the ‘80’s and has plenty of potential to be huge.

Starting in the main street of Marysville and finishing in the Melbourne CBD, the M2M will feature a challenging yet incredibly scenic course that takes in plenty of local landmarks and stunning wilderness like the Yarra River, Kinglake, the Yarra Ranges, the Black Spur, Federation Square, Chum Creek and the Hurstbridge Road descent to St Andrews… all as part of a team relay or individual day out.

The course will include six legs incorporating two trail runs (total distance ~35km), two paddles (total distance ~35km) and two road rides (total distance ~90km) with each one as spectacular as the next as they wind their way from the close knit communities of Marysville, Kinglake, St Andrews all the way to Melbourne CBD. Each leg includes plenty of variety and simply enjoyable terrain with road rides up some tough climbs (Mt Pleasant Road) and down dome flowing descents, runs on non technical wilderness trails and walking tracks through the bush and beside the Yarra and paddling legs on the scenic Yarra River right into the heart of the city.

The race will be open to individuals doing the entire race, teams of 3 with participants doing two legs each (in the same discipline or not) and teams of 6 where you do one leg each making it achievable by athletes of any level as well as corporate teams.
