XTERRA World Champion joins the Contego Wine2Whales charity drive

Press Release / 11.11.2010
Only two weeks after acquiring his fourth XTERRA World Champion title, XTERRA legend Conrad Stoltz will be back in the saddle, this time doing his bit for charity at the second annual Contego Wines2Whales MTB Race taking place from Friday, 12 November 2010 until Sunday, 14 November 2010.

Forming part of the 'Ride with the Champs' initiative, Stoltz will replace Pasella Presenter Dieter Voigt, who recently had to withdraw due to injury. According to Stoltz, up until now his only association with the Songo.info charity was through fellow world champions, Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander. "I am really happy to finally be given an opportunity to do something in support of this awesome charity. This will literally be my first time back on the bike since the XTERRA World Champs in Hawaii. I am planning to take part in a few local mountain biking events shortly and will use the Wines2Whales race as a means to get back in form. I've heard that the route has great technical sections (I am really looking forward to these) and amazing scenic sections. I am really happy to be back home and look forward to racing with my partner, Noel Wright," says Stoltz.

The 2010 Contego Wines2Whales MTB Race will see top athletes such as Christoph Sauser (Olympic medalist), Burry Stander (former Under-23 World MTB), Conrad Stoltz (four time XTERRA World Champion) and Dan Hugo (South African multi-sport champion and top ranked international XTERRA athlete) take part in support of the "RIDE WITH THE CHAMPIONS" initiative. This initiative gave riders the opportunity to bid to compete with one of these four stars. Proceeds of the auction will go towards three very worthy charities, namely the JAG Foundation (an organisation focusing on education and sport development at grassroots), Songo.info (a charity focusing on bringing sport to the Kayamandi township of Stellenbosch) and local community programmes en-route.
