Entries are now open for the 12th Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon.No doubt you're one of those people who will be getting a running diary for Christmas - here are the first dates for you to enter: 6-16 October 2011. Entries are limited to 100 participants , thus ensuring that you will receive the 'personal attention' which is synonymous with the KAEM 'family'.
To really get you in the mood, go to www.extrememarathons.com, cruise through the 2010 videos , and download the Official KAEM Song "Sunset, Rivers, Rocks and Sand and Space", written and sung by Race Co-Director, Simon Kelly.
Once you've checked out the photos, and read through the daily reports and runner comments, you'll be counting the weeks till October and dreaming of Kalahari skies. The entry form can be downloaded from the website or you can email Nadia on nadia@extrememarathons.com to receive it as a Word Document.
Congratulations to all those who completed the 2010 KAEM. Despite continued pressure from overseas competitors, South Africans swept the board this year, with 2009 Winner, Dirk Cloete, again crossing the line in 1st place in a time of 23:25, with 29yr old Hylton Dunn, a KAEM novice, placing 2nd in a time of 24:33. 3rd was Namaqua sponsored athlete, wine maker Alwyn Maass in a time of 27:44. In the ladies section it was newbies all the way, with Marinda Surridge in 1st place in 32:41, with Francis Visser close behind in 33:20. Chanleigh Mason from Richards Bay took 3rd in 44:43.
