New Location for Huntsville’s Spring Adventure Race

News Release / 18.01.2011
After five years of increasingly successful events at Deerhurst Resort, the Frontier Adventure Challenge is moving to Hidden Valley Resort for the 6th edition on Saturday, April 30.

“Huntsville continues to provide incredible wilderness challenges for adventure racers,” said Geoff Langford, the event’s Race Director. “We’re excited for the changes in the event this year – not just a new location, but an exciting new course and other changes to be announced.”

The move to Hidden Valley Resort will provide regular racers with a fresh perspective on the area. Organizers say the Resort’s generous beachfront and their location alongside Hidden Valley ski area have opened up a lot of new opportunities for the race course.

The classic spring season opener is an 8 hour race with teams of three and solos competing for prizing and glory over 40 km of biking, hiking, and paddling through an unmarked wilderness racecourse. The classic Canadian Shield terrain around Huntsville will be exploding with the freshness of spring, as well as providing racers with some mudholes to navigate.

“The rugged terrain around Huntsville is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise,” said Kate Austin, Event Tourism Coordinator with the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce. “Our picturesque landscape will provide a classic Muskoka experience for all participants. Combined with the high-energy atmosphere of the race and the fun, challenging courses Frontier creates, this event has become a highlight of our spring calendar which we look forward to year after year.”

Organizers are expecting more than 300 racers to participate this year based on historical growth of the event. Frontier builds events to satisfy all levels of racers – from elite competitors to the first-time racer. Multiple racecourse options make the event achievable by anyone with a basic level of fitness, but elite competitors will be challenged with Advanced Course checkpoints. Teams of three can be all-male, all-female, or coed.

Registration and other details are online at www.fastadventures.com. Entry fees for 3-person teams are $425 including canoes, post-race awards dinner & party, safety and a race tshirt. But for those that act quick, the first 25 teams get a $75 discount, plus wicking tshirts for the team.

Frontier Adventure Sports is also looking for local volunteers and sponsors to help make this event a success. There are more ways for sponsors to be involved than you might think – contact us to brainstorm ideas to benefit your business! Volunteers are critical to the success of the event, and it’s a great way to discover the sport, and some new areas in your backyard! All volunteers receive a race staff shirt, a swag bag, dinner and a license to party Saturday night!

About the Frontier Adventure Challenge Series

The Frontier Adventure Challenge Series (est. 2001) was created to introduce even more people to authentic, wilderness multi-sport racing. The focus of this Series is fun and accessibility - probably why the Frontier Adventure Challenge has become the largest adventure racing series in Canada.

Solo racers, and open and co-ed teams of three navigate their way across an unmarked, 40+ km racecourse in both winter and summer months. Teams are treated to a 5-8 hour adventure including such disciplines as: trekking, mountain biking, rafting, cross-country skiing, paddling, snowshoeing, swimming and even tobogganing! The Frontier Adventure Challenge is truly "Where Adventure Begins!" The season wraps up with a 75km, 12 hour Fall Classic event.
