Stoltz and Van Huyssteen conquer Duesouth XTERRA Buffelspoort routes

Press Release / 02.02.2011
XTERRA legend Conrad Stoltz proved to be in a league of his own on Saturday, 29 January 2011 when he completed the DUESOUTH XTERRA Buffelspoort presented by REHIDRAT® in an astonishing time of 02:14:02, proving once again that he deserves the title of four time XTERRA World Champion. Carla van Huyssteen was a force to be reckoned with in the women's race.

According to Stoltz, it was great to once again be racing on home ground. "I really enjoyed the DUESOUTH XTERRA Buffelspoort route as it featured a bit of everything. I had a good swim followed by a quick transition onto the mountain bike discipline. I wasn't able to pre-ride the mountain bike route and as a result was faced with quite a few surprises on the day. The run leg was adventurous with athletes having to work their way through water, down one side of the dam, over the dam wall and up the other side again. I regret not having been able to take part in more XTERRA SA events in the past, but thanks to the guidance of my new Coach, Ian Rodger, this will soon change. It felt like the old days, going up against Lieuwe Boonstra and Dan Hugo, both fantastic XTERRA athletes. I am really looking forward to the DUESOUTH XTERRA SA Champs in February," says Stoltzs. Dan Hugo came in second, while Lieuwe Boonstra finished third.

Carla van Huyssteen led the individual women's race from the start. According to Van Huyssteen, she last competed at DUESOUTH XTERRA Buffelspoort three years ago. "The route today was very tough. I had a great swim, but a lingering stomach ailment caused me to lose power on the mountain bike discipline. Luckily I mixed a sachet of Rehidrat in my water-bottle before the time. This literally helped me through the mountain bike discipline and gave me a solid finish. The run discipline was extremely scenic, reminding me why I take part in these events. Our local XTERRAs are definitely on par with the International events, if not better," says Van Huyssteen, who completed the course in an impressive time of 02hours40minutes58seconds. Riana De Lange came in second, while Carla Rowley finished third.

Craig Andrews took gold in the individual men's category of the DUESOUTH XTERRA Lite presented by REHIDRAT® when he crossed the finish line in 01hour25minutes33seconds. Dylan Pivo came in second, while Thomas Dreyer finished third. Bernelee Swart was the first individual DUESOUTH XTERRA Lite female competitor to cross the finish line with a time of 01hour49minutes18seconds. Lezette Nortje came in second, while Salome Lambrechts finished third.
