OMM – The Original Mountain Marathon Announces the Area for OMM 2011
News Release / 02.03.2011
There has, as usual, has been a debate since the last OMM on Dartmoor as to where the next event will be held. The 2010 event has been hailed by many as being one of the “best yetâ€. We have had many emails and letters praising the organisation and the courses although an extra 10k on some of the courses to compensate for the lack of height did raise some “tongue in cheek†complaints.
The atmosphere was tense on Friday night as “eventers†prepared for the following two days of physical and mental challenge. In the bar, for those who looked to renew acquaintances and make new ones, the tension was less evident but there were a number of whispered conversations hunched over O.S maps trying to second guess the course planners. Few did, as our course planners are adept at “double bluffingâ€.
The weather was excellent a mix of sun, rain, high wind, low temperatures, mist, floods in fact almost everything arrived according to Jen’s order.
Many of the competitors took advantage of the showers at Okehampton Camp when they came off the hill and apart from a slow service in the mess the food was judged to be excellent and varied.
The free transfers to and from Exeter Airport and Railway station was an added bonus and a real cost-saver. All in all it was an excellent weekend.
But what of 2011. It was safe to say that the event would be held “north of Dartmoorâ€. The tradition of moving the event every year adds to it’s challenge although it is logistical nightmare for the organisers.
For those who want to register (not all will get places) this can be done by visiting an OMM retailer, who will have forms available; by downloading a form off the OMM website (www.theom.com) or by visiting an online retail website or the OMM website.
Finally the location of the event ... the 2011 OMM event will be held in Central Scotland.
