Sit on Top Kayaks Skills Course

Exmoor Adventures are running a 'Sit on Top Kayak - Skills & Safety Course' on April 10th. It's aimed at participants who use a sit on top kayak for "recreational use on lakes, rivers, canals or sheltered bays", but would obviously benefit many race participants... and perhaps stop them zig-zagging up the canals of Britain!

During the day participants will learn a range of basic skills and techniques including;

* Lifting, loading, carrying, launching & landing
* Appropriate clothing and safety equipment
* Efficient forward and reverse paddling
* Turning, both static and on the move
* Preventing a capsize
* Moving the boat sideways
* Capsize drill and re-entry on craft
* A planned journey on the lake
* Theory - access, first aid, hypothermia, scenarios.

This course is designed to give the participant greater understanding of fundamental skills of sit on top kayaking as well as safety considerations for the sport. Details are as follows;

Course location - Wimbleball Lake, Exmoor
Time - 10-3
Kit included - wetsuits, bouyancy aids, helmets. Sit on top kayaks (£10 hire charge)
Cost - £50 pp
Minimum age - 16 (must be accompanied by parent/legal guardian)
