Speewah Legend Footrace FNQ

Media Release / 03.04.2011
The more competitive however have been eyeing off the records set in the inaugural 2010 event with a few predicted to tumble.

In the Women’s 17km event, Cairns athlete Sue Crowe appears the most likely to go under the 2 hours and 8 minutes set by fellow Cairns runner Julie Sager. Crowe is looking to confirm her position as the quickest on the trail by backing up from victories in the 2010 Gold Rush Trail Marathon and Spiny Cray Ultra and be the first female to go under 2 hours.

The Men’s event however may prove less predictable. With the 2010 winner out with injury (Chris White) and second place getter away with work commitments (Steve Cunningham), the leader at the end of the 17kms of challenging rainforest running is harder to forecast than the likely weather. 2010’s 3rd and 5th placegetters Shane White and Matt Dewar will challenge for the title, but both will be expecting plenty of competition from Innisfail’s Mal McCulloch and Townsville’s Arnstein Prytz. While both Mal and Arnstein are in the Masters category, their experience will be of great value on the technical, winding single track of the Barron Gorge National Park and will assist in challenging Steve Cunningham’s Masters record of 1:41:46.

Entries for the Speewah Legend are available online <a href="#"onClick="javascript:newsitewindow('http://adventuresportnq.info')"class="main">here</a>.

With a very scenic 8k course and shorter but challenging 4k course options available it is a great way to get into Trail Running and enjoy some of the best tracks in Far North Queensland.
