Anaconda Adventure Race Series kicks off in Forster, NSW
Media Release - Chris Ord - Rapid Ascent / 05.04.2011
Forster is the only Anaconda Adventure Race (there are four) that spreads competition over a full weekend of racing with competitors able to do the ‘Full Anaconda’ over the two days or the ‘Anaconda Half’, just racing on the Sunday. The Forster course is regarded as a favourite by many for its sheer beauty and the intense mix of challenges. Whatever entry type – two or one day, individual or team – competitors will run through impressive coastal scenery on hidden tracks and footpaths; paddle on pristine flat water inland lakes; mountain bike through wilderness on rollercoaster trails and swim in water so clear entrants will slow down to talk to the fish. Okay, so the pointy enders perhaps not, but organisers Rapid Ascent note that Forster in particular is a magnet for weekend warrior types and adventure race first timers, given its split format and usually favourable weather.
‘Top Flight’ athletes to launch battle for overall series honours
Alongside the weekend warriors that are the heart and soul of the Anaconda series, the event has also long attracted pointy end athletes from adventure racing, multisport, triathlon and Ironman communities. Oh, and Tony Abbott, too. Who could forget that budgie smuggler moment? But we digress...this is the first year that a number of the elites will battle out the series on an even footing, each competing in at least three of the four rounds, with the best three results for each competitor counted to determine who is the ultimate AARS champion for 2011.
