F1 meets AR in W1
Richard Brown / 12.07.2011
London’s oldest public building, a Georgian riflemaker’s workshop in fashionable West one, was the unusual venue for an event to promote this December’s Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge. After a three year break this year sees the welcome return of the 350Km 5-day staged adventure race. The Tasmanian government having secured a three year deal ensuring that the event will be held in Tasmania against stiff competition from other states, rolled out the man himself, Formula One driver Red Bull's Mark Webber to meet the press yesterday.
Along with Richard & Elina Ussher, and Team adidas TERREX’s Mark Humphrey & Bruce Duncan from the AR community, the event was awash with the great and good of Tasmania’s tourism fraternity as well as several representatives of the national press, and SleepMonsters.
After a speech by Mark outlining his vision for this years Challenge re-iterating its aim to challenge people, offering many a life-changing experience, and to continue to raise funds for the Mark Webber Challenge Foundation – in support of selected Australian foundations, Mark made himself available for a few photos and small talk before being whisked away by car.
With Mark gone it was down to the serious business of ‘talking Tasmania’ which really wasn’t a difficult sell! Over a third of the Island is protected National Park and World Heritage Area – its Australia’s own ‘adventure island’. An amazing destination not only for an adventure race but for an adventure - full stop.
SleepMonsters will of course be carrying reports from the event in December.
