Alpkit Big Shakeout 2011 - A Huge Success

News Release / 20.10.2011
The Peak Districts first Big Shakeout Adventure Festival in October was declared a huge success by organisers Alpkit and Thornbridge Outdoors.

Over 300 people were treated to a full weekend of excitement and entertainment during the event at Sheffield City Councils Thornbridge Outdoor centre near Bakewell.

Blessed with blue skies, bright sunshine and inspirational views, climbers, bikers, walkers and canoeists enjoyed all the Peak District had to offer before kicking back at the Big Shakeout.

Families and friends encouraged each other up, under and through the obstacles of Thornbridge Outdoors whilst climbers were treated to world class coaching sessions by Johnny Dawes and Andy Kirkpatrick.

Mountain bikers were taught invaluable skills from Campbell Coaching before being guided around some of the best trails in the Peak by Ed Oxley. A feature packed program of entertainment including lectures, films and bands was headlined by the stars of BBC 2’s Dragon’s Den, BassToneSlap on Saturday evening.

Nick Smith, one of Alpkit’s directors, said “This weekend was all we could have hoped for. We couldn’t have asked for a better crowd, everyone just got into the vibe of the event. The atmosphere around the campfire on Saturday night was electric as people listened to the music and shared the stories of their day.”
