Date For Craft Bike Transalp 2012 Is Set With Two New Stage Towns

The Transalp story goes on! Next year will see the 15th edition of the famous mountain bike stage race, starting on the 14th of July 2012 and ending after eight stages on July 21st as usual in Riva del Garda.However, the organizer, Delius Klasing publishing house has come up with a completely new starting point, Oberammergau. The municipality which belongs to the Upper Bavarian county of Garmisch‐ Partenkirchen has already been the starting point for the racing cycle stage race “TOUR Transalp†and has experience with staging an event of that dimension.
„We are really happy to have brought one of the world’s most popular mountain bike stage races to Oberammergau and to co‐organize it. We would like to show all of the participants and guests how varied biking can be in the Ammergauer Alps,†says Thorsten Unseld who is responsible for Culture‐ and Event Marketing at the Ammergauer Alpen GmbH.
He adds: “The region is unbelievably diverse. Due to our exceptional pre‐alpine setting within Bavaria’s biggest conservation area especially the bikers will find a challenge for every level. That’s why Oberammergau so excellently qualifies as the starting point.â€
From there the route 2012 will lead as usual via Imst to Ischgl before the participants arrive at the next new stage town. It is the municipality of Nauders in Tyrol which lies above the Inntal, between Finstermünzpass in the north and Reschenpass in the south, and geographically belongs to the Vinschgau region.
From there the Transalp‐bikers will leave Austria and continue to Scuol, in the Engadin in Switzerland before they reach Italian ground. There the route will lead them via Livigno and Ponte die Legno to Madonna di Campiglio. As every year the last stage will end in Riva del Garda.
