Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race and Everest Challenge Marathon

The 21st Himalayan Run & Trek Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race went off successfully recently in the Darjeeling area of the North-East Himalayan ranges.

Adventurers from fifteen countries including USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Czech Republic, Singapore, Scotland, Ireland, France, Sweden, Italy and the India took part in this novel event. The Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race has been distinguished as one of the world’s most challenging and toughest endurance events.

Mr. Anil Verma, IAS, Administrator of the local government flagged off the race while admiring the efforts made by Mr. C S Pandey, Race Director in encouraging runners from all over the world to see the unparalleled beauty of the Himalaya through promoting such an event. Mr. Deon Braun (South Africa) won the 21st International Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race with an overall time of 18 hours and 16 minutes, receiving the Sant Nagpal Baba Memorial Gold Award with the first prize.

The second and third positions were won by Mr. Lars Drageryd (Sweden) with a time of 18 Hrs. 35 Min. and Mr. Thomas Stephen Wallace (Ireland) with a time of 19 Hrs. 18 Min. respectively.

In the female category Ms. Karen Jane McGibbon (UK) with an overall time of 24 Hrs. 14 Min. won the first prize. In second position was Ms. Ivana Pilarova (Czech Republic) with a time of 27 Hrs. 12 Min. and Ms. Amanda Louise Clayton (UK) with a time of 27 Hrs. 53 Min. was third.
