Final Deadline For The First Siberian Black Ice Race

The Siberian Black Ice Race is the world's first multi-discipline race along the length of Lake Baikal, the world's oldest and deepest frozen lake. It will take place in Siberia in March 2012 and there is little time left to get a place as the application deadline has been set for Jan 31st.
Based on the highly successful North and South Pole Races, the race will offer two race distances, the 155 mile sprint or 379 mile marathon. Race categories will include kite skiing, mountain biking, cross country skiing, running, walking and skating or any combination of these - whatever you think you can manage! This is an entirely new category of extreme racing for those who wish to experience the challenge of racing on ice in Siberia, one of the world's most beautiful and harshest wildernesses.
Starting in the ancient Cossack city of Irkutsk racers will have an incredible chance to experience the unique chance for the first ever time of racing on top of the black ice in Sibera. Tony Martin, CEO of EWR, describes the race as "Longer than England, colder than vodka and harder than granite".
Not only is the race itself an incredible challenge but once finished, Marathon competitors will have the chance to complete the amazing experience with a memorable journey on the legendary Trans-Siberian Express; the longest and most iconic rail journey in the world tops off this unforgettable experience of vast wildernesses, magical landmarks and a myriad of cultures.
