Wild Racers Are Go

News Release / 23.01.2012

Wild Racers is an evolution of adventure television. Not since Eco Challenge in the 90’s has the sport of adventure racing received such exposure.  Follow a select group of athletes as they travel the globe competing the the most arduous endurance events on the planet.  You will see the world’s real adventure racers.  No second chances, no support and nowhere to go but the finish line.

Six of the worlds most incredible expeditions have been chosen as the playing fields for these competitions.  The first stop for teams was the epic XPD Expedition Race held in the  brutal and remote West coast of Tasmania, Australia.  With little time to recover, teams are heading now to the Huairasinchi Race in Ecuador where tropical rain forests and high altitude will test their limits.  Then, 45 Degrees in Latitude to the South, will be their next challenge in the Orion Health GODZone Adventure Race.  This icon of New Zealand will dish up and adventure race as demanding as it will be spectacular.

The first airing of the 24 part Wild Racers will begin on the Outdoor Channel throughout Asia on 1 Feb 12.  It will be followed by Australian television broadcast mid March by Fox Sports and online through the Sydney Morning Herald TV Website.

The list of global broadcast partners is growing rapidly with Qantas In-flight, BSkyB in Europe and USA + South American networks to follow. There are very exciting announcements to come so stay tuned!

The film from XPD Australia follows an epic struggle unfold between three competitive teams, the rough and tough Merrell Adventure Addicts from South Africa, the super fit and chiselled Tecnu Extreme from the USA and the tactical thinkers of Blackheart from Australia. Other teams, like SART Expedition from Singapore and Macpac Girls on Top from New Zealand were just trying to survive the torture dished up by the Race Director.

Teams comprise of four members, both male and female, representing their country.  Together and never more than 100 metres apart, they must compete non stop, day and night helping each other through seemingly endless mental, physical and environmental challenges.  If one member fails, the whole team fails.
