Extended field limit for the 50km Kona Shorty
Extended field limit for the 50km Kona Shorty / 30.01.2012
Rapid Ascent is very happy to announce that we have extended the field limit for the 50km Kona Shorty from 600 riders to 800 riders to allow more riders to take part in this iconic event.
The 50km Kona Shorty sold out in December so this announcement will make all the riders currently hanging on the waiting list very happy knowing they have a definite ride on the day.
“We are very cautious about extending the field limit,” says Race Director John Jacoby, “as we do not want to compromise the riders’ experience by squeezing too many riders onto the course and causing congestion on the trails. We will start the 50km riders in two wave starts to spread the field out and have also made some slight changes to the course from last year to help handle the extra numbers.”
The 100km Kona Odyssey is also proving popular and is expecting a near capacity field for the full distance event as well, but there is a definite shift towards the 50km event for this year – are we all getting softer in our old age?!
ENTRY LOGISTICS:
Those riders currently on the waiting list were given prior advice of this new entry limit and encouraged to submit their entry on the website entry system http://www.rapidascent.com.au/KonaOdyssey/entry.aspx We now publicise the entry extension to the general public so that anyone can now enter themselves into the event until it reaches its new limit of 800 riders – so if you are still to enter either the 50km or 100km events you are encouraged to get your entry in soon as both events are still expected to sell out well before race day.
ENTRIES FOR THE KONA ODYSSEY ARE STILL OPEN FOR THE 100km and 15KM
