A multisport race that challenges competitors to run, ride and then paddle a distance of 155km from the mountain township of Marysville to Melbourne’s Docklands is back for its second year of competition.
After debuting in 2011 with a 700-strong field of individual and team entrants, the multi discipline race has partnered for its 2012 outing with a not-for-profit organisation and will now be known as the Marysville to Melbourne Multisport Challenge presented by The Difference.
Expected to attract more than 1000 competitors, the event combines the sports of trail running, road cycling and flat water river kayaking into one epic race that challenges amateurs and elites in equal measure.
The race will take place on Sunday, 29 April 2012, and online entries are now open at www.marysville2melbourne.com.au.
“The Marysville to Melbourne is a true ‘journey’ event that pushes entrants to their physical limits over the course of a full day’s racing,” says Sam Maffett, General Manager of Rapid Ascent, the event organisers.
Indeed, veteran of more than thirty Ironman races, including ten in Hawaii, David McCormack, rated the event as “much tougher than Ironman” after competing in 2011. He finished third in the vintage category (50+) in a time of 10 hours 24 minutes. “It was a good break from Ironman training and more enjoyable,” says McCormack who plans to race again in 2012.
