Terra Incognita Joins World Series

Registration is now open for the 6th Edition of Terra Incognita in Croatia, and one of the most competitive international events on the racing circuit has now joined the AR World Series.

Entries opened on January 1st, for the race which will take place from September 11-17th on a 400km course. Terra Incognita has a reputation for being a tough competition, and last year teams travelled from 17 different countries to take part. More can be expected now the race has joined the AR World Series and the top two teams will get the chance to race in the Adventure Racing World Championship in 2006, though the hosting event for this has not been announced yet.

This year\'s race takes place in North Adriatic region called Kvarner with the turquoise sea, rugged mountains of Gorski Kotar region and stunning Mediterranean islands as a backdrop. Leaving the tourist port of Opatija, teams catch their last glimpse of modern civilisation and set off on five days of unknown challenges as they swim between rugged islands, kayak for hours through the islands and ascend thousands of metres on foot and by bike through some incredibly demanding terrain.

Teams who have taken part in past races encountered sharp limestone plateaux, deep canyons, and steep mountains, on which there was a snow storm last year. In 2005 teams are promised “trekking over dry islands and mountains abundant with thick forest, paddling in open seas and white river up to level III, swimming across channels and islands and hiking in mountains up to 1800m high.”

Full details and an online registration option are on the race web site, and entry costs 1150 Euros for international teams.
