Three adventure racers, dangling from ropes on the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo office (Department of Tourism), unveiled a building size banner announcing the Costa Rica Adventure Race will be the host of the 2013 Adventure Racing World Championship.

The AR World Championship 2013 is scheduled for the first two weeks of November. Alexander Baker, co-race director, said “Our goal of the race is for participants to experience an unforgettable race, where the terrain, the climate, and strategy will test them to the limit”.

AR World Series Director, Craig Bycroft, said “Costa Rica will be a stunning destination for international athletes and provide superb terrain and environment for a very adventurous World Championship”.

The disciplines planned by the Costa Rica Adventure Race for 2013 will be rafting, kayak (ocean and river), mountain bike, trekking, ropes, inner tubing, coasteering, canyoning, over a 5-10 day, 700+ km course. $75,000 USD prize money will be on offer to teams.

The AR World Series unites in competition the worlds best endurance athletes at premiere Qualifier events around the globe. Each year a Qualifier event is chosen to host the championship - 2013 being Costa Rica. They accept the top two placed teams at each of the series Qualifiers, plus the previous AR World Championship, and allocate wild card entries.

The AR World Championship has defined internationally the sport of adventure racing and crowned the worlds top adventure racing athletes since 2001.

Teams will now be watching closely the 2012 edition of the Costa Rica Adventure Race, held from 21-28 April 2012, hoping to obtain any insights that may assist them in 2013.
