Race The Rockies Adventure Challenge
Race the Rockies news release / 17.01.2005
Race the Rockies Ltd. won’t be holding its popular 18 Hour Adventure Challenge in Kananaskis in 2005. Instead, it has moved the race 2 hours west of Canmore into the area around Golden, British Columbia. Remote and rugged, this 18 hour adventure race will get athletes right into the backcountry. “The terrain is nothing short of spectacular†enthuses RTR President Adele Frizzell. Golden, BC (Canada) is squeezed between three magnificent mountain ranges - the Rockies, Selkirks and the Purcells. Frizzell promises “A world-class course with jaw-dropping views.â€The race hopes to return to Kananaskis Country in 2006. “We were enjoying a lot of support from Canmore but right now, all of our energies are going into the Golden race, to make this the biggest and best event yet. In 2006 we\'ll probably run both races.†Now in its third year of operation, Race the Rockies is expecting another sell-out event. \"This year we wanted to focus on course design. For us, it meant shaking things up and moving the race to Golden. We’re incredibly excited about this race course, which has already been vetted. We also have strong local support.â€
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Canadian Mountain Properties and Golden Economic Development Authority are involved.
Registration for Race the Rockies Golden, BC is open to solos and teams of three. The race is scheduled for August 27/28. Athletes from Canada and the United States have already registered.
