ESCALATOR – first HANWAG approach shoe with Cocona® lining
Press Release / 25.05.2012
The latest addition to Hanwag’s approach product line walks up the crag either with Cocona® or GORE-TEX® lining. It’s Hanwag’s first light low-cut climber also available without GORE-TEX®. Cocona® is a performance fabric made of polyester fibres with active carbon particles from coconut shells permanently anchored in the polymer.
The lining is worth looking at (and smelling): Cocona® is fast drying and provides effective cooling as well as natural odour control. Good in summer, good for cragging, good looking! In summer 2012 Hanwag cobbles his first approach shoe with Cocona® lining, or alternatively in a waterproof and breathable version with GORE-TEX® membrane (Escalator GTX®). Cocona® contains microscopically small carbon particles from coconut shells.
Tiny particles, big impact: the lining is fast drying, has a cooling effect and reduces unpleasant foot odour.
The GORE-TEX® version is designed for poor weather: durably waterproof and highly breathable. Both Escalator versions perform fantastically in approaching. The low-cut shoe is lightweight (for cragging and in the backpack during alpine climbs), flexible and comes with a tough Vibram® Cross sole-unit featuring a non-profile climbing zone under the toes for high friction and surefootedness. Hanwag cobbles the shoe in a cemented construction. Thus, they last long, provide excellent edge stability and are easy to resole. Real handcraft, no hocus-pocus!
