Salomon Zugspitz Ultratrail enters Grainau

The Start of the second SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRATRAIL is almost here. For months more than 800 runners from all over the world have a temperature because of this one of a kind Ultra Run around the Zugspitz-Mountain. On Saturday, June 23rd 2012 the starting signal will be given and with it some participants start off to a race of more than 24 hours.
Two different routes will lead the participants around the Zugspitz-Mountain. About half of them will stand behind the starting line of the Ultratrail in Grainau on early Saturday morning. After months of preparation and training they know the facts by heart: 100 kilometers and 5.420 meters of elevation difference.
Two hours later the participants of the slightly shorter Supertrail with 68,8 kilometers and 3.120 meters of elevation gain will start in Leutasch-Weidach. At the Scharnitzjoch, a few kilometers ahead, the Supertrail-route meets the course of the Ultratrail. From then on Ultratrail and Supertrail take an identical course.
Split times will be taken at the feed zones, that are set after every 10 to 15 kilometers. Due to security reasons the organiser states cut-off-times for every station. Those who can’t follow this limits, have to drop out of the race, because they would not be able to finish within the overall time limit.
