Light is Mighty: Nordisk Presents the World's First 2-man Tent Weighing Under 1 kg
News Release / 12.07.2012
Munich, 12 July 2012 – Innovative, functional outdoor products that are always one step ahead of the competition and are rugged enough to withstand the great outdoors? Scandinavia is usually the first place to look. And the Danish sleeping-bag and tent experts Nordisk are no exception.
At OutDoor 2012 in Friedrichshafen they will debut their most spectacular new development – the lightest two-person tent in the world. Logically enough, the one-person version of the same model is even lighter, and the line is rounded off by a three-person tent. Nordisk's new Light Weight line for outdoor and trekking experts presents tents that are the pinnacle of perfection in both material quality and function.
Light Weight tents – performance for pros
When every gram counts on a trekking tour or expedition, equipment must be the best of the best. Lightness and compactness are paramount for materials and functions. Nordisk applied its long-standing expertise to develop a light-weight line for experts, with outer tents that are featherlight, yet also rugged and durable, in three layers of ultra-fine 10-denier ripstop nylon (30g/m²) with water column height of 2,000 mm.
Tent liners of ripstop nylon are highly breathable and waterproof, and the floor's water column height of 8,000 mm ensures that no water penetrates from below. Nordisk offers a choice of poles – DAC Featherlite or even lighter carbon, and likewise a choice of pegs between optional V-shaped titanium pegs or the standard aluminium version supplied. Accessories use only the finest materials, such as reflective Dyneema guyropes, Duraflex runners, Cordura tubes for corner poles and YKK zippers.
Function in perfection
But the material isn't all that has to pass the pro test: details and functions too have to be top-quality. The Nordisk product developers came up with an array of smart features. The ultra-simple concept, colour-coded poles and easy-close fasteners enable the Telemark one and two-person tents and Nordland three-person tent to be set up in under four minutes.
The curved central pole of Telemark 1 and 2 runs under the outer tent, creating perfect fabric tension to ensure that water runs off efficiently. All models have a porch area at the outer entrance for stowing boots and baggage. Once the outer tent is closed, integrated magnets ensure the fabric lies smoothly over the zipper. To extend the porch, the open door of the outer tent can be set up as an awning by connecting up three of the four short corner poles – without significantly impairing the fabric tension of the outer tent.
Pockets in the tent liner offer easy-to-find storage for small items that are always at hand. Ventilation for the inner tent is easy to control; the front of the outer tent can be raised by a single pull on an elastic cord to create a mesh 'skylight' which lets in cool air. If the fresh air turns into a boisterous gale, all three tent models can withstand wind speeds of up to 35 m/sec and are thus the perfect companions for harsh trekking conditions.
