XPD 2006 in Tasmania

26.01.2005
In a much anticipated announcement, Geocentric Adventure Racing has released plans to hold the second edition of the XPD Expedition Race in the rugged and remote Tasmanian wilderness.

Race Director Craig Bycroft said “Competitors will travel to places so remote that if there is a Tassie Tiger still alive, they might even find it.” Dates have been set for just over 12 months away, from 20th Feb. to 3 March 2006.

Up to 40 teams of four people will travel to the event from all around Australia and from overseas for the race. They will be unsupported over their 500+km journey as they race day and night on a course involving trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and special disciplines.

When asked why Tasmania was chosen as a location for the 2nd Edition of XPD, Craig said; “After the success of the first event in the outback, we needed a totally different and new challenge.” The first event was certainly a challenge with teams traveling over 700km through the desolate outback over 5-10 days.

“So,” Craig said, “a mountainous island, with incredibly remote wilderness which is buffeted by winds of the roaring 40s. Sounds like the perfect place to me!”
