Haglofs Open 5 Series 12/13
News Release / 26.09.2012
It’s getting close, only 2 months till the first event up in Scotland. For those new to this series, the concept is to visit as many points as you can by mountain bike and foot in 5 hours.
7 events in the series with five entry categories; male and female solo; male, female and mixed pairs.
4th November - Pentlands
This will be the first time that the Haglöfs Open5 event has journeyed north of the border.
Veteran Open Adventure competitor Rosemary Byde has a great event in store to attract event regulars to this stunning location. The Pentlands is not a stranger to hosting adventure races though. In the past many events have visited this place. It is also a regular escape for Edinburgh's outdoor community as it’s within easy travelling distance of Scotland's capital city.
2nd December - South Downs
Alex Davies has seen both sides of the fence with Open Adventure both as marshal and racer, so he knows a thing or two about what racers want out of an event. The South Downs is a beautiful area to visit and we feel that anyone making the journey won't be disappointed.
6th January - North York Moors
2013 sees the return of the Haglöfs Open5 to the North York Moors. Anyone who can recall the last trip out east to Sutton Bank will recall a very icy encounter.
We are hoping for a different weather system this time, but perhaps get the spiky shoes and tyres on order just in case. Simon Walker knows the place like the back of his hand and is sure you won't be disappointed with another trip out east!
3rd February - South West
We return to the land of cider and clotted cream again for this series. Racers really appreciated that Open Adventure travelled to the South West of the country in the last series. So we are back to see what else this area has to offer. Eddie Winthorpe is on the case this time and is looking forward to putting his own stamp on this event.
3rd March - Yorkshire Dales
We are back in the Yorkshire Dales again to sample the delights of limestone country. It's a favourite among our regular competitors and has been a feature for many past series. We have experienced racer, Tom Needham, in charge of finding the best locations this place has to offer. Tom is passionate about the sport and is confident you'll leave the event with a smile on your face.
7th April - Lake District
Anthony Cooper seems to have got the monopoly on planning events in this part of the country. That's because he does it so well. His Grizedale and Staveley events from the last two series proved really popular and a hit with racers. So he is back and tasked with another Haglöfs Open5.
This time we are looking at a new area within the Lakes, and somewhere away from the regular places which attract the masses.
5th May - Shropshire Hills
The Shropshire Hills were another surprise location last series which many racers admitted they'd never visited before. We were so impressed with this little gem that we just had to return. We think it will make a fitting location for the final event in the series too.
Again regular marshall Jim Rounsley is at the helm. With his attention to detail he is sure to organise another Haglöfs Open5 to remember.
