Get ready for Ecuador’s Adventure Race! Huairasinchi Chevrolet 2013 consists of a route more than 400 kilometers (250 miles) long, crossing many of the megadiverse country’s provinces and visiting ecosystems and communities situated between 4,500 meters (14,765 feet) and sea level.

The national and international athletes will experience drastic altitude, temperature, and landscape changes. The first phase of the race will occur in the souring Andes Mountains, a range that in Ecuador is adorned with nine volcanoes and snow capped peaks that exceed 5,000 meters (16,400 feet). Later, they will descend through diverse ecological floors until reaching the western or eastern Andean foothills.

In 2013, Huairasinchi Chevrolet will present a great adventure full of not only sporting, but also cultural and environmental experiences. The racers will pass through indigenous communities and local populations in different areas of the country. The route will be kept secret until one day before the start of the race. The meeting point will be in Quito, the country’s political and cultural capital.

Huairasinchi Chevrolet will be held over 4 days. It is estimated that the first teams will reach the finish line within 72 hours; the route will remain open for 85 hours. Teams can compete in either non-stop categories or in categories composed of three stages, stopping each night. The categories are:

1.- Elite ARWC:
Mixed teams (at least one female participant)
Non-stop race consisting of +350 kilometers
ARWC World Championship classifying race
Prizes for the first 5 places

2.- Elite Men
Non-stop race consisting of +350 kilometers
Prizes for the first 3 places

3.- Adventure
Mixed teams (at least one female participant)
Race consisting of 180 kilometers divided into three phases over three days
Prizes for the first 5 places

4.- Adventure Men
Race consisting of 180 kilometers divided into three phases over three days
Prizes for the first 3 places

Since 2009, Huairasinchi Chevrolet has been part of the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS). In 2013 the winners of the Elite ARWS category will receive a free spot in the Adventure Racing World Championships in Costa Rica. A spot will also be reserved for the second place team as well as the best Ecuadorian team. The first 10 teams to cross Huairasinchi Chevrolet’s finish line will also receive points in the AR World Ranking.
