Looking for the race venue was a geography lesson in itslef, apart from towns like Acapulco,Durango and Mexico city not alot was familiar.

For this fourth edition EAH 2005 again promises to have an spectacular course. Most racers who have attended this race can give you a pretty good idea of what the course may look like, but every year it changes completely. They have raced in deep pine tree forests, deserts and mountains, and this year it will be held in the “Huasteca” which is a mountainous area in the northern part of the State. The State of Hidalgo is located in-between the Neo-Volcanic axis, the Sierra Madre Oriental and the Mexican Gulf coast.(just north of Veracruz if you have an atlas).

The race is open to teams of 3 but It is a 3 person co-ed team that will race for the $550,000.- Pesos ($55,000.- usd approx.)purse.

The race is a combination of stage racing and non-stop. With three stages, and a total distance of over 350 kms.

• 1st STAGE will last approximately 12 hours
• 2nd STAGE is 24 hour non- stop
• 3rd STAGE lasts approximately 6 hours

Disciplines for this years race include Kayaking, Trekking, Mountain Biking, Swimming, Canyoning, Roping (various), Caving and Orienteering

Team Montrail contains Aussies Novak Thompson, John Jacoby and Narelle Ash while darren Clarke is racing with Team Sole.

The Aussies come well credentialed with wins in this race in 2003 and wins in Eco Challenge, MSOQ, The Raid and numerous other top placings so be sure to keep an eye out for them.
