Tracklogs Sponsors Hebridean Challenge
19.02.2005
A few things have been happening behind the scenes at the One.Tel Hebridean Challenge over the last few weeks.First of all a new website has just gone live with lots more help and advice for potential teams, and a few features requested by previous competitors, such as a page where teams can advertise for team-mates and vice-versa (though you can also do that on the Heb forum
hosted by Sleepmonsters of course). The new site is also much easier to navigate with a section on the home-page for the latest news from the race organisers. The site is at www.hebrideanchallenge.com
The first news item on the site is about sponsorship from TrackLogs, who will be supplying a set of digital maps for each competing team. As the Heb is known for its complex logistics and huge amount of route choice, this should be a valuable tool for competitors allowing them to plot a variety of routes and to see the distances and altitude gains involved, which they can do before the race.
The next news item, which will appear soon, will be about a link with the Surf-Lines sea-kayaking school in North Wales. In order to compete in the 5 person team category in the Heb, each team needs a kayaker qualified to 4* (sea) standard. In conjunction with the Heb, Surf-Lines will be running a training and assessment weekend on the 23rd/24th April.
Finally, the organisers say that they already have more entries than last year, with 5 months to go before the race. But the price of entries goes up at Easter, so anyone who thinking of entering should make their intentions known soon - a deposit of £100 will secure a place in the race.
