This year sees the circuit begin where it left off last year, returning to Western Australia, covering one-third of the Australian continent with more square kilometres than inhabitants. The state is bound by 12,500 kilometres of the world\'s most pristine coastline to the west, with everything from rugged gorges, towering forests, woodlands, white beaches and tropical reefs in between. So vast that it even spans climatic zones.
This time around the competition is heading South, 400kms down into the temperate climes of the South Western pocket to a region where tall timbers, pounding surf and stunning national parks form a backdrop to the states foremost holiday destination. This flourishing region, with its hallmark forests of towering Karri trees, offers endless action to the most exacting outdoors enthusiast and opportunities for surfing, kayaking, diving, white water rafting, caving, bushwalking and abseiling are endless. Rolling pastures, charming inland towns and award winning wineries give way to magnificent, old growth forests that continue all the way to the coves and bays, dramatic cliffs and truly glorious beaches that dot the coastline from Denmark to Albany. Albany’s historical significance as the first European settlement in the State of Western Australia makes it more than a fitting venue worthy of this 2005 season starter and it’s ample tracks, trails, rivers and inlets will provide all the tribulations necessary for a stunning opening round.
