The Giant Odyssey Mountain Bike Marathon for 2014 is supporting Michael Blyth who Rapid Ascent have officially appointed as an ambassador for the event, to be held on 27 April 2014 at the cycling mecca of Forrest, Victoria.

 

Michael was a passionate mountain bike rider who unfortunately suffered a horrific spinal injury whilst mountain biking near Sunbury (VIC) on the 22nd of May 2013, at just 18 years of age. This has resulted in paralysis from the abdomen down and moved him from riding his bike, to riding a wheel chair. Apart from the devastation of the injury, the financial strain that is now burdening Michael and his family is only another battle. Michael is NOT financially covered by TAC nor the National Disability Insurance Scheme, so the Blyth family is forced to pick up all the costs of his rehab, alterations to the family home and car, and all other treatment costs themselves. For such a passionate mountain biker having to adapt and change his life, Event Organisers Rapid Ascent would like to share Michael’s story with Giant Odyssey and other mountain bike enthusiasts, and see how we can all help out.
