Crossing Portugal in 9 days, north to south; finishing in Sagres - the southern west point of Europe; 1150 km of off-road racing across forest tracks, gravel roads and steep single tracks on clifftops.

The 2014 edition of the already mythical race will happen from the 9th to the 18th of May. Once more a group of tough people will cross Portugal from north to south, from Bragança to Sagres.

Subscriptions are open and there are still some spots left to participate on the 12th edition of the race. Go to our website to check all details and the prices - www.trans-portugal.com.

The Course

Racing from hotel door to hotel door, overnight stays in the best hotels in the region, excellent food and relaxed atmosphere all around. Always racing across very isolated and peaceful landscape and in self sufficiency, no aid stations and all external support is forbidden

No signs, ribbons or arrows to point the way. Intuitive flawless GPS guiding. You can never get lost and you are always sure you are following the right race track.

In 2014 a big part of the route will be identical to last year's, including the unforgettable crossing of Serra da Estrela, with its never-ending climbs and breath-taking scenery. But there will be some major changes in the Alentejo stages where we think it is possible to ride in even more beautiful tracks and sleep and eat in better hotels.

Test Ride

Come and try TransPortugal. Every year we invite everybody to cycle a stage of the race before it happens. This year the Test Ride will take us from Monchique to Sagres, the last stage of TransPortugal.

Participation is open and free, but all logistics are the responsability of the participants.

We can help book the hotel at Monchique or Sagres and we will provide the GPS track before the event, so you can do it at your own pace.

The test ride will start at Termas de Monchique by 9:00 AM on the 9th of February.

This stage has 99km e about 2000m of total climbs.

A Different Race

There are no classes or categories, with the handicap system in place everybody can aspire to be victorious in this tough endurance challenge.

The key element for the race is the GPS device that all racers must carry. On TransPortugal Race the course is not physically marked, there are no arrows or other signs indicating the way to follow, the information is only on the GPS each participant carries with him. A map on the screen, overlaid with the track line is all that is required for them to find their way through the 1150km long route without getting lost, without hesitations or the stress of not knowing whether or not they are on the right track.

Our race was one of the first to use this new technology right from the first edition twelve years ago. Our motto has always been “We Leave behind only footprints or tire tracks”.

If you are related to one of the racers, a friend, or simply interested in having a different holiday, we have a treat for you – TransPortugal Race invites you to follow the race and get to know Portugal far from the normal tourist routes.
