A Fitting Finale to the Silva 10 Night Race Series

News Release / 15.04.2014
After a few weeks of sunshine in the Lakes, the classic Lakeland weather came in on Saturday morning, leaving racers with a challenging course over Yewdale Fells above Coniston.

With longer evenings the race started at 8.30pm, as it was beginning to get dark, and as they headed out initially through the woods below Yewdale, and up to Low Tilberthwaite, the rain and mist set in. The outward course was over relatively easy ground, with slated tracks and gentle inclines, but leaving the road at Tilberthwaite after the water station, the runners headed up Yewdale Beck and into the wind at Tilberthwaite Gill before heading across the fell, towards Hole Rake, before descending (with caution, in some cases) to Miner's Bridge at Church Beck, and returning to the village and the finish.

The pace was fast amongst the front runners, with first finisher Tom Adams (42:45) a good five minutes ahead of Bruce Duncan (47:41) in second. Third male was Kie Jackson, in 48:07, with Chris Near (40+) in 49:07 & Ken Maynard (50+) in 51:39.

The women were further spread out, with Ashleigh Thorpe (58:28) being first in followed by Lucy Spain (1:01:35) and Lucy Jones (1:02:13). Ruth Power (40+) was first vet back in 1:35:43.

This was the final event in the Silva10 series this season, and finished with a classic in Open Adventure's heartland of the Lake District; follow us on facebook.com/openadventure and twitter.com/openadventure to find out about future events.
