GODzone Adventure - Chapter 4
Lake Wanaka Inspires - GODzone 2015 Sells Out in Record Time
News Release / 08.07.2014
New Zealand’s premier adventure racing event, GODZone, has received its full quota of entries for Chapter 4.
The event is to be hosted by Lake Wanaka and will run from the 27th February to the 7th March 2015. The largest field ever will be lining up with 50 four person teams having signed up to take on what is known, due to its unique format and difficulty, as ‘The Adventure Like No Other’.
GODZone Race Director Warren Bates says it is an incredible result given the event is still eight months away.
“The roster was effectively full within 48hrs of entries opening last Tuesday as teams realised that demand would be high and places limited. We are justifiably proud of the interest GODZone has received from within New Zealand and all over the globe.”
“The positive response is a culmination of the three highly successful editions of the event that have preceded Chapter 4 and the fact that the event is to be hosted by Lake Wanaka. It’s no secret that Wanaka is seen as perhaps the ultimate outdoor lifestyle location in New Zealand.”
The location has proved to be an alluring prospect for some competitors looking to experience something special and Mr Bates says the fact that Wanaka hosted Eco-Challenge back in 2001 has been an added attraction particularly for international teams.
The GODZone adventure event first started in 2012 with high profile national and international competitors in attendance. This has including multiple Adventure Racing World Champions Team Seagate led by Nathan Fa'avae who has described GODZone as the best adventure race in the world.
Seagate have announced that they will be back to defend their GODZone title in 2015. They will be joined by a host of excited teams, including the top six teams from Chapter 3 as well as teams from afar afield as Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, US and Japan.
Mr Bates says the event is having an influential and positive effect across the whole of adventure racing in New Zealand.
“It is on a bit of a roll at the moment with new races springing up across the country and more people are getting involved. Many have watched GODZone online and on television and been inspired to get out and try the sport. Not everyone will make it to GODZone as it is the pinnacle event however these people are the building blocks of a healthy sport and it’s fantastic to see what is happening out there.”
